Yahoo! Watched this movie in 3D with Gizwiz movie day!! Thanks for the movie and McDonald’s dinner again Andrew and Jasmine ^^
Well this movie, Up, was actually release on 29 May 2009 at USA, but you know, our country is really “boleh”, and now only they have it on cinema on 20th August 2009. Listen this movie trailer for so long on Fly FM and saw a very good review for this movie at Rotten Tomatoes (97%) and IMDB (8.7/10) which is even higher than Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (87% in Rotten Tomatoes) made my curiosity grow bigger and bigger! Even me, who don’t really like to watch animation in cinema, feels like wanted to watch this movie very much!
Hmm.. This time, this review I’m going to write it differently, skip all the synopsis and write about the real ‘review’ and what I feel ð as the synopsis you can just found by Google! So here goes.. the trailer ^^
Before the movie start, there were this special 3D trailers to watch! It was really awesome! If you guys remember, the old style 3D was using the red and blue glasses. I remembered I watched it in cinema for Spy Kids 3D and Shark Boy and Lava Girl. Well, what I can say about those movies were sucks! The 3D effects was so so, but the red and blue thingy makes the colors looks awful! It looks like watching bootlegged VCD. Not to mention the story, they were too focus on making the 3D effects until the story were so lame, meaningless, childish and sucks! I prefer Spy Kids 1. So I didn’t really have happy experience with 3D.
However as technologies nowadays keep on growing, Disney and Pixar made it again! They always stay ahead in the movie industries! Especially in animation ð
The first time I watched Disney Pixar animation was Toy Story, I remember I watched bootlegged VCD, so even if the graphic was great I can’t really see it ð and then the animation that impressed me the most was Finding Nemo, the sea, the water, the graphic was so real and pretty! And then there was interesting story of The Incredibles. And then there were competitors of theirs we have something like Shrek, Madagascar, Over the Hedge bla bla bla which I don’t really like.. although I know Shrek was very popular but I didn’t watch ð The only animation that I like, which is not Disney Pixar production, is Ice Age. Love the squirrel thingy the most, SO CUTE!
Okay, way too far from the movie ð
This time, Disney Pixar made it in 3D! Not the ‘lao beh’ red and blue 3D effects they using, but they use a special and more advance technology which gives better effects! We have to wear a special made glasses from Dolby Digital which cost RM200. So, there were counter setting up at the entrance and exits for the hall to make sure you give them back the glasses after the movie. The screen was different! The colors was so sharp and clear! Compare to other hall, there were no black strip or annoying noise that made by the films. There was a second that I though they were using LCD screen!! Until I saw the projector light came out from the back ð Even the advertisements looks more interesting than ever! After the normal advert that we used to see on the cinema, there were these special 3D trailers from Disney Pixar! We saw many movies from Disney Pixar coming soon in 3D including Toy Story 3!! The effects were awesome! the snowflakes, the broken glasses, magic powder, it really looks like coming out from the screen! Too bad the screen wasn’t big enough! It was a small hall.
Up, was really different with any other animation. I think this animation wasn’t made for kids, but for adults. Although it still have the normal funny scenes and act that normal animation will have, but there were also scenes which fell silence, let the audiences feel the sad and touching atmosphere for awhile when the old man, Carl Fredricksen, thinking and missing his dead wife.
I like how the movie started, while a cute and cubby kid Carl met his soul mate, Ellie. The process of them falling in love to each other, get married, move in to a shabby house and renovate themselves into a lovely house, and grow old together. It was a warm and lovely love story of theirs. Until one day where they found out that they couldn’t have kids cause of physical problems. So they focus on their dream since they were kids, which is going to the lost land in South America. So they started to collect money until both of them become old. Just when they collected enough money to fulfill their dream, Ellie passed away. (Sorry this was just the introduction of the movie, so I’m not going to say more :P)
My feeling towards this movie? I would like to say this is really a nice movie. Really worth those high marks in Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB. Not because of the funny scenes, but the meaning behind that. Appreciate what you have, fulfill your dreams so that you wouldn’t regret when you’re old, let go of what you’ve lost and always look to the better future instead of looking backward. Just like Carl, who felt regret after his wife passed away and wish to fulfill their dream on behalf of her. And finally, he realise that time doesn’t goes back, we can’t hold on to our past and give up or doesn’t see what we have now in the present, or the future. Deep huh? lolz
Finally, I rated this movie 9/10. Don’t know why I can’t give full mark, just don’t feel that it’s perfect ð
